Dr Prarthana Thiagarajan

Dr Thiagarajan (PT) graduated from Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ school of medicine in 2010 and undertook postgraduate training in general internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology in the East Midlands. She spent the final year of her training at the Birmingham Liver Unit, completing an advanced fellowship in transplant hepatology in August 2022. She received a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2021, with a research focus on precision imaging and dietary intervention in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). She was appointed as a consultant hepatologist in NUH in September 2022.

PT practises diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, with special interests in portal hypertension and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). She is keen to develop the applications of EUS in hepatology, with a specific focus on EUS-guided liver biopsy, portal pressure assessment and treatment of ectopic varices.
